Set in an alternate world where technology never got past the first sparks of electricity and steam powered devices, people found different ways to take to the skies. Playing with different gases and materials, airships were perfected until they could carry people and weapons. The sky was soon as populated as the sea. And grew just as dangerous.
Our ladies live on a ship like this. The balloon itself is a patchwork design. When they sprung a leak, they patched it up with whatever scraps they could find. It's as colorful as the crew itself. The ship is nothing overly fancy in terms of what else occupies the sky. But it's their ship. Captain King won it in a game of cards. It wasn't as fair or square as the previous owner would have liked, but the law was on her side for once and the ship was hers free and clear.
Of course, without real ties to any nation or holding down actual jobs, they steal to make their living.
The world is on the cusp of war. A sense of paranoia hangs over everyone. The nations are racing to have the strongest ship for what awaits over the horizon.
In this setting, there are people, cyborgs, and true robots.
